How much impact does a year of generosity and kindness have on a town?

A mysterious old man appears one day in the town of Golden, Georgia. Although he is very kind, he never gives a last name.

He begins gifting portraits drawn by a local artist to their “rightful owners”; all he asks is they meet him at the bench by the fountain in town. Then he tells them what he sees in their portrait, and what he believes they are capable of.

And this is only part of the generous acts of which he is the benefactor.

Why does he have such a fascination for and connection with art? And why is he known as just “Theo”?

I recommend this book, having just finished listening to it.

The story behind it is kinda cool too 🙂, in the afterword by the author.
