Happy New Year to all!
As 2026 begins, I hope y’all are doing well, and I wish you hope, joy and courage for another year.
I’ve decided to launch an experimental weekly mini column of a song that I find inspirational that week.
I’ll see how it unfolds, any feedback is welcome. ~Shelton

Song of the week: One Step At A Time by Dottie Rambo.
Verse 1: I planned my life as though I held tomorrow in my hand, But God could see much further down the road than I had planned; He saw the tears and broken hearts that were destined to be mine, So He taught me how to walk with Him, One step at a time.
Chorus: I’m walking one step at a time, ‘Cause the road ahead is narrow, One step, Lord, will do, As long as I feel your hand close to mine; Give me courage as a child feels taking one step from his mother, Jesus, I can make it, By taking one step, one step at a time…
Verse 2: If we could see the valleys we must walk before we’re home, We might dread the darkness and fear we’d walk alone; But He gives us sweet assurance, There’s not a mountain we can’t climb, If we learn to climb it carefully, One step at a time.
Chorus: I’m walking one step at a time, ‘Cause the road ahead is narrow, One step, Lord, will do, As long as I feel your hand close to mine; Give me courage as a child feels taking one step from his mother, Jesus, I can make it, By taking one step, one step at a time…
I was privileged to sing this song Sunday evening at a church song service here in Hardin, Montana. I love the words and music to this song. Dottie Rambo had such gift for putting feeling and meaning into a song. Also, this song seemed fitting as we take our first tentative steps into a new year. This reminds me of the song that says, “I want to hold to the hand of the Man who can walk on water.”*
One step at a time, holding to His hand.
