Summer Afternoon Musing

There’s nothing like a run
‘Long the tasseled corn
Midst a southern summer
Gliding by those rows
With the dog running ahead
And that sweet aroma in your nose

Beneath the spreading trees
We’re running free
The cicadas hum is constant
The grass is so green
From a week of lots of rain

E’en though we seek the shade
Or the cool glade
I scarcely could trade.
So until the flowers fade
Let my heart grateful be
For many times I’ll see
If I turn observant eyes
Coming from a thunderstorm
There’s rainbow in the sky
A gentle reminder to you and I
Of our Father above- He’s always nigh.
